Die neuere Geschichte von Château d’Escurac beginnt mit dem Großvater des heutigen Besitzers, mit Jean Landureau. Er kaufte das Gut, um seiner Leidenschaft nachgehen zu können: Pferdezucht – nicht Weinbau. Sein Sohn Jean-Michel begann damit, Reben zu pflanzen und die Trauben bei der örtlichen Kooperative abzuliefern. Sein Sohn wiederum, Jean-Marc, war es dann, der sich dazu entschloss, diesen Weg

Das ist neben Chateau Petrus der Name in ganz Bordeaux. Chateau d´Yquem produziert die teuersten, lagerungsfähigsten und exclusivsten Süßweine des Bordelais. 80% Semillon und 20% Sauvignon werden hier angepflanzt, immerhin 8000 Kisten werden produziert.

Decanter: Aromatic intensity, wild flowers, some chocolate and blackcurrant notes. Red cherries. Grippy and filling but soft, chalky and saline, a gorgeous weight on the palate with ripe bramble berries, cool blue fruit and lots of cola, liquorice and wet stones. Very transparent and hands off. A touch straight but lovely muscular edge without the heft. Juicy, fun, clean, pure. Balanced. Savoury. Great job controlling the extraction - tannins are there but this is sapid too. A little more serious and structured and perhaps overall elegant than Clerc. A 2% dash of Petit Verdot completes the blend."

Decanter: Lovely floral aromas are complemented by bright red berry fruit and subtle toast from the 40% new oak for aging. The palate is juicy and fruit forward with impressive tannic structure. The balance between alcohol, acidity and tannin is very good in this vintage. The success comes in no small part from the judicious extraction managed by consultant Eric Boissenot, his fifth vintage with this estate, as well as the cool clay and limestone soils. Bravo!"

Jane Anson: Inky deep colour, sleek and intensen, plump damson and blueberry fruits, grilled coffee beans, no sharpness in the rendering of the acidities of the vintage, instead they turn it into a lovely savoury finish with a swirl of cedar and incense. Excellent ageing potential. 50% new oak"

Decanter: Lovely clarity to the aromas of summer red berries and soft dried herbs. Juicy and alive, I really like that this wine always delivers a playful Pomerol style - never too much - with fresh acidities, crisp fruit and salty tannins. Slightly firm and grippy as expected, with a soft undercurrent of power but overall lightly presented with charm. A touch of cinnamon and clove on the finish. 3.52pH. Ageing 12 months, 13% new oak barrels, 18% oak, 42% one year, 25% two years."

James Suckling: A fruity, well-built red with purple fruits, flowers and herbs on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with plush tannins. Compact finish."

Jeb Dunnuck: Juicy red and black fruits, leafy herbs, leather, and graphite all define the 2025 Château Carlmagnus, a complex, medium-bodied Fronsac with ripe tannins and terrific overall balance. On the palate, it brings a terrific amount of fruit and texture."

Jeb Dunnuck: Bright citrus and orchard fruit, mint, and some spicy wood all emerge from the 2025 Château De Fieuzal Blanc, a serious Pessac-Léognan blanc based on 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, with the Sémillon aged in new barrels and the Sauvignon Blanc raised in once-used barrels. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a nicely concentrated, balanced mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish."

Wine Advocate: The 2025 de Fieuzal, harvested between September 4 and 26, is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, mulberries, wisteria and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and precise, it’s built around a fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety, finely grained tannins and concludes with a long, ethereal and perfumed finish. More structured than usual, it remains well balanced, supported by lively acidity and a subtle, gastronomic bitterness on the finish. It's a classical expression and one of the more compelling values in Bordeaux this year."

Jeb Dunnuck: A lovely, elegant wine, the 2025 Château La Cour D'Argent has a perfumed nose of ripe cherries, currants, spicy wood, and spring flowers. Based on 95% Merlot, 2.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc raised in second-use wooden conical vats, it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pretty, focused mouthfeel and outstanding length."

Jeb Dunnuck: A seriously good Saint-Estèphe in the making, the 2025 Château De Pez opens with rocking aromatics of cassis, attractive red fruit, flowers, and chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and round, with a beautifully layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great, great finish. This is one hell of an impressive barrel sample."

Jane Anson: Exceptional, this is concentrated and intense, with high spice, sinew, muscle, beautiful damson and dusky rose petals, great quality. 20% whole bunch fermentation."

Jane Anson: Sleek and vivid plum and damson colour, love this estate, such a great name to follow. Smoky reduction on the opening here, and although there is plenty of juice running through the palate, the tannins are pretty fierce at the moment. September 4th to 20th harvest, 30% new oak. 28 hl/ha yield."

James Suckling: The texture and depth are really impressive for this chateau and might be its best wine ever. It’s medium-bodied with integrated and refined tannins, a powdery and textured mouthfeel and an endless finish. Floating on the pure fruit. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 11% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot."

James Suckling: A crunchy white with sliced Asian pear, green apple and some flint aromas. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a crisp finish. Nice extraction with a minerally undertone. A blend of 43% chardonnay, 29% gros manseng, 14% sauvignon blanc and 14% vioginier."

Jane Anson: The gourmet edge is evident from the first moments, keeping the signature of this wine, expertly done, cocoa bean, liquorice, glass-staining brightness, fresh acidities, takes a beat for the full La Croix signature to come in but it is luscious and juicy, and will reward five to seven years ageing. 3.67 pH. Harvest September 2 to 23, 60% new oak. Last year in the former cellar, with the new winery receiving fruit for the first time in 2026 vintage."

The Wine Cellar Insider: 5 Spice, roses, irises, and white flowers are only part of the aromatic display. You also enjoy licorice, espresso, smoke, tobacco, blackberries, and black cherries. However, the palate owns the show with its display of sensuous, silky, refined black and red fruits, Asian spices, chocolate, herbs, and mint leaf. The expansive finish combines power with elegance. Everything is in balance, providing a lingering, seamless endnote that allows you to experience the purity and wealth of fruit, which lingers for over 60 seconds. Produced from blending 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 21% Merlot, 13.44% ABV, 3.74 pH. Vinum: Dieser Wein beindruckt jedes Jahr, da macht dieser 2025er keine Ausnahme; komplex, verspielt, floral, mit reifer Kirschfrucht, Pflaumen, darüber getrocknete Minze, das ganze mineralisch unterlegt; der Auftakt ist fruchtig, mit leicht cremiger Textur, am mittleren Gaumen wird der Wein straffer und strukturbetonter, zupackendes Tannin, frische Säure, kräftig, dabei elegant, mit langem, würzigem und salinem Finale. Lisa Perrotti-Brown: The 2025 Ferran Blanc delivers zippy notes of fresh grapefruit and lime blossoms, leading to hints of lemon balm, elderflower, and wet slate. The light- to medium-bodied palate is crisp and intense with citrus- and mineral-laced flavors, finishing long and zesty. The blend is 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon. The alcohol is 13%."

Decanter: Vibrant purple pink colour on the rim of the glass. Beautifully pure blackcurrant and red cherry aromas, ripe and expressive with some wild bramble fruit, cola and liquorice. Silky smooth, such refined tannins, softly chewy but not overly so, just giving a round and grippy mouthfeel. Clearly they didn't extract too much, this has life and focus with concentration but such delicacy too. Yet still there’s power - such a long, liquorice and mint finish. Spiced but in line. I really like this, a great job. Packing plenty of structure and tannins but with a real kick and lift. One of the best here. Harvest 2-19 September. 3.38pH. A yield of 32hl/ha. Ageing 12-14 months, 30% new oak."

Vinum: Florale Noten über dunkler Frucht, getrocknete Kräuter, viele Veilchen; der Gaumen ist deutlich kräftiger als in anderen Jahren, dabei bleibt der Wein frisch und sehr elegant, die Tannine sind von hoher Qualität, stützen die satte Frucht; ungemein saftig, mit faszinierendem Säurebogen und langem, salinem Abgang. Jeb Dunnuck: A Merlot-heavy blend of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Franc that will spend 15 months in 65% new French oak, the 2025 Château Feytit Clinet is just brilliant, with a full-bodied, deep, and layered profile packed with blue and black fruits, chocolate, and tobacco. On the palate, it's concentrated and powerful yet stays weightless and flawlessly balanced, with velvety tannins and a great finish. Hitting 14% alcohol, this is up with the crème de la crème of the Right Bank, as well as Bordeaux in general."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: The pale gold-colored 2025 Filhot bursts with fragrant notes of juicy peaches, passion fruit, and fresh ginger, plus hints of spice cake and chamomile. The palate is rich and viscous with a crisp backbone to offset the opulent fruit and a long, spicy finish."

James Suckling: A medium-bodied red with blackberry, cedar and terra cotta character and plenty of subtle fruit and sophistication. Shows excellent potential."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Fombrauge bursts from the glass with bold notes of wild blueberries and fresh plums, giving way to hints of candied violets, camphor, and anise. Full-bodied, the palate delivers a crisp line and plush tannins to frame the bold blue and black fruit layers, finishing with a compelling raspberry lift. The blend is 94% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. The alcohol is 14.5% and the pH is 3.5. This is being aged 75% in French oak barrels, one-third new, and 25% in a variety of other vessels-amphorae, concrete, and stainless steel."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Fonbadet soars from the glass with classic notes of cassis and ripe plums, followed by hints of violets, graphite, and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate is filled with bright black berry flavors, supported by grainy tannins and a refreshing line, finishing on a minerally note. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The alcohol is 13%."

James Suckling: An attractive red with aromas of sliced strawberries and cherries with a hint of herbs, perhaps from the carmenere. Medium-bodied with firm and silky tannins. Hints of minerals and crushed stones and a crisp finish. Nice bitter lemon undertone in the finish."

James Suckling: So gorgeous. Best ever from here. Medium body with round and caressing tannins and a long finish. Dark berries with hints of roses and other flowers. The texture is so beautiful. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc."

Jane Anson: Deeper in colour than the others in the range, reflecting the higher Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Glass staining vivid plum, dark capsicum and red pepper spice, sage and rosemary, this is enjoyable with plenty of character, needs time to soften but great potential here. Harvest from September 1 to 19. Now out of Cru Bourgeois system. Tasted twice. 35hl/h yield."

Decanter: A classic Sauvignon-dominant blend with an appealing floral nose of acacia and honeysuckle. The wine reveals a noble spiciness on the palate, with a touch of bitterness well balanced by acidity. Creamy and poised, with the tropical and fruity notes that are not exaggerated, this Médoc blanc (the inaugurating vintage!) needs a little time to develop fully but is already balanced and shows good potential."

Jeb Dunnuck: A serious, sexy wine that readers should seek out in just about every vintage, the 2025 Château Fontenil offers blacker fruits, roasted herbs, chocolate, and spicy nuances on the nose. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it's focused and balanced, with fine tannins, wonderful purity, and a great finish. Based on 100% Merlot that's being raised in 30% new French oak with the balance in amphora, due to tiny yields this vintage, the grapes that would normally go into the Delfi cuvée have been folded into this classic château release. This smoking good Fronsac will shine right out of the gate yet should have 20 years or more of prime drinking."

James Suckling: Fruity, creamy and well rounded, with a medium body and silky tannins. Mellow and easygoing."

Jeb Dunnuck: A complex, graceful wine, the 2025 Château Franc Mayne is 100% Merlot aged in equal parts new barriques and foudres. A solid core of juicy red fruits, dried flowers, spice, and classic chalky minerality all emerge on the nose. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has ripe, supple tannins and outstanding length. I tasted this on three occasions, and it showed beautifully every time. It's a balanced, graceful Saint-Emilion in the making."

James Suckling: Delicious, poised and succulent, with crushed berry and baking spice aromas. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins and bright acidity. Vivid and savory."

Château ist als Bezeichnung fast schon ein wenig übertrieben. Es handelt sich bei dem mitten in St. Emilion gelegenen Weingut eher um ein Châteuchen - gerade mal knapp zwei Hektar stehen unter Reben, gerade mal gute 400 Kisten verlassen Jahr für Jahr den Betrieb. Dabei habe ich mich schon manchmal gefragt, ob der Aufwand noch ganz normal ist, den der Besitzer Michel Gracia bei seiner Weinbereitung

Vinum: Die Nase ist klar und rein, feinfruchtig, mit subtiler Röstnote, viel Floralität und mit einer noblen Zurückhaltung: man sucht, man findet; am Gaumen gradlinig und von grosser Eleganz, vertikal, voller Kraft, dabei schwebt der Wein mit einer tänzerischen Leichtigkeit über die Bühne, er hat Muskeln, hält Kontrolle und Fokus, die Tannine sind von höchster Güte, die Säure verleiht Zug; im Abgang von grosser Länge. Ein Grand-Puy-Lacoste, der wegen seiner Finesse in die Geschichtsbücher eingehen wird."

Falstaff: Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, dezente Randaufhellung. Feine rote Kirschenfrucht, ein Hauch von Kräutern, zart nach Preiselbeeren, floral, zart mineralisch unterlegt. Saftig, elegant, reife Herzkirschen, finessenreiche Struktur, reife, seidige Tannine, salzig und anhaftend, frisch, bereits gut antrinkbar, ein leichtfüßig wirkender, animierender Speisenbegleiter."

Jeb Dunnuck: A blend of 84% Sauvignon Blanc and 16% Sémillon brought up in new and used barrels, the 2025 Le Grand Village Blanc has a gorgeous nose of white peach, mint, flowers, and hints of orange blossom. Rich and layered on the palate, it's medium-bodied, with beautiful acidity and a clean finish, and is scheduled to be bottled in June."

Decanter: Such fragrant and explosive aromatics, full of violets and freshly picked flowers with really ripe blackcurrants. Such a vibrant colour in the glass too - a bright pink colour, really vivid. Succulent and so juicy with a lovely zing of cranberry acidity but backed by a cool blueberry, almost creamy and chalky texture. Amazing energy to this, really fleshy and lifted but at the same time there’s plenty of fruit and power. 3.69pH. 2% Cabernet Franc completes the blend."

Jeb Dunnuck: Crème de cassis and black raspberry fruits intermixed with spring flowers, graphite, tobacco leaf, and spicy wood all emerge from the 2025 Château Gruaud Larose, a deep purple-hued Saint-Julien based on 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc that's resting in 80% new French oak. This beauty stopped me in my tracks with its sheer class and purity. Full-bodied on the palate, it has a layered, graceful mouthfeel, gorgeous tannins, and a great finish, all grounded by a remarkable sense of balance and elegance. It checks in at 13.47% alcohol with a pH of 3.71. This is a heavenly Saint-Julien that brings the richness of the vintage alongside an unmistakable sense of class. Bravo!"

James Suckling: Bright, fresh aromas of blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, crushed stones and terra cotta, It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a fresh and vivid finish. Crunchy and crisp. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. The winemaker also makes Vieux Chateau Certain and Le Pin."

Decanter: Coming from gravely soils susceptible to heat stress, I am happy to report smooth tannins, crunchy red fruit and ripe juicy plum aromas and flavours. The palate is warm and enveloping for the vintage, without hard or protruding tannins accentuated by the acidity. The 12 month ageing in one-third new oak will lend breadth to the wine."

Decanter: Raspberry and rose petal aromas, creamy strawberry scents too. A lively kick of acidity starts this expression before focusing and revealing grippy but clean and cool blackcurrant and cherry fruit with a stony, graphite and flint undercurrent which leaves the finish fresh and clean. I like the purity and detail on show. Refined with nothing over the top. Very transparent, and very approachable too. Serious but classic. Very impressive this year. A good pick!"

James Suckling: A very fine-tannined young red with blackberries, black currants and crushed stone character. It is medium-bodied with a lovely finish. Very classy for a second wine. 50% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot and 4% cabernet franc."

Jane Anson: Super slow and steady expansion as it goes through the palate, this absolutely makes you smile and is right up at the top of my expectations for how Haut-Bailly would perform in this often-conflicting vintage. Beautiful, crushed rose petals, wet stones, iris flowers, squid ink, shows finesse but also generosity, a wine with so many dimensions and layers to experience. Sit back, give it a good 6 to 8 years in bottle, then get ready to celebrate. 55% in first wine, 50% new oak, 3.6ph. harvest September 4 to 22."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: The 2025 Haut-Brion Blanc shimmies out with energetic notes of lime cordial, fresh grapefruit, and lemon curd, leading to suggestions of orange blossoms, sea spray, and yuzu zest with a touch of struck flint. The full-bodied palate is so satiny and seductive with electric citrus fruit flavors and minerally accents, finishing very long and fragrant. Magic. The blend is 53% Sauvignon Blanc and 47% Sémillon. The alcohol is 14.55%. It was aged in French oak barrels (45% new). This was tasted as a bottled wine."

James Suckling: Very lemony, with botanicals and spices on the nose and palate. It's medium-bodied with tangy acidity and a long and flavorful finish. Energetic. 76.5% semillon and 23.5% sauvignon blanc."

Wine Advocate: The 2025 Haut-Brion is, as usual, more reserved and austere at this stage than La Mission, unwinding in the glass to reveal notions of dark wild berries mingled with spices, pencil leaf and licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and layered, it’s built around a multidimensional core of fruit framed by structuring yet well-integrated tannins, delivering a notably controlled expression of power and concluding with a long, perfumed, subtly ethereal finish. While still tightly knit at this stage, it possesses considerable depth-IPT (an alaytical measure of tannic concentration) levels exceeding 100, rarely observed-that is perfectly controlled and will require extended cellaring. Recent refinements in the estate’s approach, notably in viticulture, are translating into fruit of greater balance and freshness, even under the warm, dry conditions of 2025. It stands as one of the more impressive renditions of Haut-Brion in recent years."

Jane Anson: Inky purple in colour, love the grilled coffee bean that is gourmet edged but the grip of the limestone stops it from being overdone, and the (new addition) of Cabernet Franc gives the most lovely iris and violet lift. Delicious. 20% whole bunch fermentation, plus massal selection of Cabernet Franc Hubert de Boüard consultant."

Decanter: Intensely fragrant on the nose. Grippy and concentrated from the start, big and ample in the mouth but at the same time it’s fresh and lifted - cool and stony rather than overly chewy and too ripe. I quite like the serious nature and lovely mineral base. Still tight but this will soften. Good frame and energy. Ageing 30% new oak. A yield of 22hl/ha on 5ha."

James Suckling: Expressive, fruity and quite generous. Loads of red berries and sweet cherries on the nose with a floral touch. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Delicious pulp character in the finish."

James Suckling: Gorgeous aromas of blackberries, black olives, coffee beans and dark chocolate follow through to a medium to full body with creamy and open-grained tannins. Jeb Dunnuck: Black raspberry, cassis, graphite, sappy flowers, and some chalky minerality all emerge from the 2025 Château Joanin Bécot, a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. It's medium-bodied on the palate, beautifully balanced, and elegantly textured, with fine, polished tannins. It's another brilliant wine from this family that readers should snatch up, and it will stand side by side with a brilliant Saint-Émilion. Buy a case and thank me later."

Decanter: Great florality on the nose, juicy, succulent, crisp and ripe at the same time. This has energy and life, still compact and fully tannic but I like the confidence and upfront nature. They haven’t held back here but managed a fun, fruity, grippy and full of life style with refined edges and plenty of underlying power. Mint, liquorice, tobacco and wet stones on the finish. Very good. 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Carmenere complete the blend."
