JAMES SUCKLING: "A firm and racy red with blackberry, black olive, and orange peel. Just a hint of salt. Medium to full body. Tight center-palate with lovely tannins and a savory finish. Fresh and balanced at the end. Crunchy. Open. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc."

DECANTER: "Fragrant redcurrant and cranberry. Milk chocolate, vanilla, creamy, fruity and fresh with cherry and plum fruit. Cool and crisp, so much freshness straight away and so sleek, the weight is there in the density of the ripe fruit but this keeps a very slick frame. Lovely movement and energy, softly vibrant but also quite rich - a spectrum of cranberry and blackcurrant and plum fruit gives lots of different expressions with liquorice and tobacco on the finish. Chalky and stony, a lovely mineral grip too. Feels sophisticated, with balance, nothing sticks out, suave and elegant. I love it’s gentle expression though, doesn’t shout but this will be so great to drink and enjoy. I love it. Everything seems to be balanced delicately on a tightrope, with tenderness, density and tension. Really great and more finessed than some Pomerols. 3.8pH. Ageing 8% amphora, 50% new oak, 15% foudre, the rest used barrels. 42hl/ha yield. Green harvests were performed to drop 15-20% of the potential yield, given the team 'had never seen so many grapes on the vines'."

JAMES SUCKLING: "What strikes you about this wine is the center-palate and the purity of cool fruit notes, such as brambleberry and orange peel. Medium body. Whole and layered with ultra-fine tannins leading to a silky texture and persistent finish."

JAMES SUCKLING: "The growth at the end is really pretty. Classic in structure. Medium-bodied with fine, crunchy tannins. Just a hint of salinity on the finish. 90% merlot and 10% cabernet sauvignon. 5% of the merlot was barrel-fermented."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Very pretty and polished with blackberry, blueberry and ink character, as well as a hint of hazelnut. It’s medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins to the fruit. Fine and flavorful finish."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A beautifully structured and complex white with pristine, bright citrus fruit and an exotic touch. There’s a mineral character to it, too, with oyster-shell and crushed-stone notes. It’s medium- to full-bodied with racy acidity that adds energy and tension. Very long finish with fine tannins that frame it nicely."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Juicy, vibrant, forward, and fresh, the blackberries, strawberries, and currants, with their licorice, and tobacco edge are ripe, chewy, and vibrant. This is one of those top value Left Bank wines with character that sell for a song. Drink from 2027-2038."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This has a very deep and beautiful palate with cherries, chocolate, hazelnut and orange peel. Pretty blackcurrants and blue berries, too. Medium body. The finish has gorgeous al-dente fruit at the end and is always subtle. Open tannins. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot, and 5% petit verdot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Very Chateau Margaux, with perfumed violets, currants and other berries, as well as oranges. Medium body with fine, caressing tannins that are tight and vivid. Racy and refined. Brightness and beauty to this second wine. Succulent. Refined. One of the best Pavillon Rouges in a while. 30% of the production. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is quite a big Pavillon Blanc with sliced pineapple, ripe apple, lemon and stone. It's full-bodied, layered and phenolic with a ripe sense to it, but then it’s citrusy and salty. Like fresh oysters. Reminds me of vintages from the 1980s, but with more freshness and clarity. 100% sauvignon blanc."

FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Feine Edelholzwürze, zart nach Nugat und Nelken, dunkle Waldbeeren, Cassis, Lakritze, floraler Touch, zart nach Mandarinenzesten, verführerisches Bukett. Saftig, hochelegant, reife Herzkirschen, seidige, tragende Tannine, lebendig, finessenreich strukturiert, ein Hauch von Schokolade und Brombeeren im Abgang, harmonisch, balanciert, mineralisch-salzig, bleibt sehr lange haften. Ein perfektes Abbild dieses einzigartigen Terroirs."

Jean Luc Thunevin schreckt tatsächlich vor nichts zurück. Er geht nach Margaux, in´s Medoc, in die Hochburg der Traditionen, und produziert dort einen Wein der absoluten Sonderklasse. Genauer gesagt macht den Wein Jean Lucs sympathische Frau Murielle. Was meinen Sie, wen er mit in´s Boot genommen hat? VINUM: "Mit mehr Cabernet in der Assemblage strahlt dieser Wein mit klarer Frucht aus dem Glas, florale Noten, Kirschen, Cassis; delikate Frucht, präzises Holzmanagement, geschliffene Tannine, alles an seinem Platz, deutlich gradliniger, frischer und spannungsvoller als letztes Jahr, besticht mit Brillanz und Balance."

VINUM: "Stille Wasser sind tief; verschlossen, dunkle Frucht, kühler Ausdruck; saftig am Gaumen, schöner Spannungsbogen, ausgezeichnete Balance und Länge. Feiner als im Vorjahr."

Der Name Chateau Maucaillou lässt sich übersetzen mit „schlechte Steine“. Das geht zurück auf die kargen, steinigen Böden, die Chateau Maucaillou umgeben. Dort wächst nichts - außer Weinreben. Die Anfänge von Maucaillou liegen in den 1870er Jahren. Damals stieg die Familie Petit Laroche, die bis dahin im Handel mit Bordeaux-Weinen tätig gewesen war, ins Winzergeschäft ein. JAMES SUCKLING: "This is firm and chewy with a medium to full body, yet it shows succulent fruit underneath. Outstanding depth as well as a crunchy sense to this, with blackberry and graphite. Profound limestone character is giving this real depth and solidity."

Chateau Monbousquet - ein weiteres Château aus dem Imperium von Gerard Perse. Kurz nachdem er Chateau Monbousquet im Jahr 1993 für neun Millionen Dollar gekauft hatte, begann er damit, Weinberge und Weingut zu renovieren. VINUM: "Expressiv, floral, Veilchen, Cassis, Brombeere; saftiger Gaumen, top strukturiert, der Wein zeigt messerscharfe Tannine, viel Charakter, eindrückliche Länge. Kann lange reifen."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Wow. This is the essence of Montrose, with blackberry, blackcurrant, crushed stone and earth. I have not tasted a Montrose like this in 42 years of my career. It has a much more vertical nature to it, with layered tannins that go very deep and long, The muscular structure and intensity is something else. This is a new era for Montrose. It is now made from only 45 hectares of vineyards right in front of the chateau, instead of about 60 before. 75% cabernet sauvignon, 21% merlot and 4% cabernet franc."

JAMES SUCKLING: "The blackberries and blackcurrants show through beautifully, together with very integrated tannins. Dense and textured. Transparent. Graphite coming through. Second wine of Montrose. 61% merlot, 32% cabernet sauvignon, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Velvety and caressing already, with lovely tannins and outstanding depth of fruit. Medium to full body. Juicy finish."

VINUM: "Frischer und mit mehr Tiefgang als im Vorjahr; satte Frucht, viel Konzentration, eine umwerfende Frucht wird von messerscharfen Tanninen gekontert, aromatisch lang, mit dunklen Beeren und subtilen Röstnoten im Rückaroma. Weniger üppig als auch schon, sehr gelungen."

JAMES SUCKLING: "The tannins provide a powdery and layered sense to this, spreading across the palate. It's full and layered with firm depth and length. Blueberries and crush stones. Four-square. Some limestone with the clay. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc."

Der Preis für den Grand Vin wurde um sage und schreibe 37% reduziert, der Preis des Zweitweins 2023 LE PETIT MOUTON liegt unter dem Preisniveau des Jahrganges 2019 Wir hatten zweimal die Gelegenheit, die gesamte Palette aller Weine auf dem Familiengut Chateau Clerc Milon gemeinsam mit PHILIPPE SEREYS DE ROTHSCHILD zu verkosten. Ersehen Sie nachfolgend die Bewertungen, die durchweg auf sehr hohem Niveau sind und unsere euphorischen persönlichen Eindrücke mehr als bestätigen. Derartige Primeur-Preise haben wir seit Jahren nicht mehr gesehen.

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is a tighter and more compact Petit Mouton with a full-bodied, compact palate that is framed nicely by the tannins. Savory and juicy. Structured. Contained. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 12% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot. Better than 2022?"

JAMES SUCKLING: "The density and beauty to this is so attractive, with a lush and flavorful character, yet it’s neatly framed by acidity and minerally undertones. Lively and salty. Part of the vineyard is on limestone, which gives that sea-salt undertone. Savory. Fresh at the end. 50% sauvignon blanc, 44.5% semillon, 5% sauvignon gris and 0.5% muscadelle."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A baby Barsac with a solid core of fruit, medium sweetness and notes of tart tartin, caramel and candied lemon. Some chocolate. Hints of spice that suggest solid botrytis. 100% semillon."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A linear and structured red with blackberry, raspberry and a hint of crushed stone. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a long, intense finish. Crunchy and minerally. Classy. Precise. 67% merlot, 30% cabernet franc and 3% cabernet sauvignon."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A fresh and linear character with crunchy fruit and intensity. Medium-bodied and crisp. The texture and purity of fruit is excellent for a second wine."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Very fresh and focused with beautiful, bright fruit, as well as a fresh, floral perfume and a mineral undertone. It’s medium-bodied with super-tense acidity that adds verticality and length. Polished and textural on the mid-palate with a lingering finish."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Black cherries stained with tobacco leaves, flowers, licorice, and smoke are what you initially notice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, vibrant, chewy, and brisk, with bright red berries, hint of cocoa, and spice in the juicy, finish. The wine blends 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, 13.8% ABV. Drink from 202702040."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A spicy and juicy red with a tight center-palate, medium body, creamy tannins and a savory finish. Vivid and focused. Shows finesse."

DECANTER: "What a Palmer in 2023! Crazy aromatics, full and bright, packed with intense scents of pink and purple flowers, damson fruit - clearly ripe no doubt, but no overt heat with some graphite and liquorice on the nose too and the dried herb Cabernet notes. Rich, layered and voluptuous, one you could use the word opulent to describe, full of flavour and really fruit forward. Not as overtly juicy as some, more harmonious and balanced, the tannins are perfectly integrated with the fruit and acidity with the added plushness that the Merlot gives to the blend. Powered and structured, but less serious than some with great energy, generosity and charm on show in terms of texture but it’s focussed too with a long length. Something very captivating about this. Lots of cool classicism on the finish with a salty, mineral, oyster shell undercurrent. 55% new oak for the first year in barrel then one year in 30hl foudre. 3.75pH. 13% press. 32hl/ha yield."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is dense and velvety with a creamy texture. Blackberry, blueberry and stone aromas and flavors. Layered. Very primary and focused. 53% cabernet sauvignon, 43% merlot and 4% petit verdot."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Zart nach Nugat, floral unterlegte schwarze Kirschfrucht, einladendes Bukett. Saftig, ein Hauch von Feigen, süße Kirschen, reife Tannine, frisch, mineralisch und anhaftend, verfügt über einige Länge und Reifepotenzial."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is really classy with length and polish that shine brightly. Also, you see blackberry, bark, currant and mushroom character. Full-bodied with wonderfully polished tannins and a seamless finish."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Dense and tight with a solid core of sliced Meyer lemon, lime and green apple. It’s full and very compact with a phenolic texture that runs the length of the wine. Slightly chewy, yet, it’s long and persistent with a mineral and bitter citrus undertone at the end."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is really minerally with salt and dark fruits, such as blackberries and boysenberries. Medium to full body. Layered with fine tannins. Upgrade in quality here. Best ever second wine from Pavie."

JAMES SUCKLING: "The depth and intensity is really out of this world. The richness is there, but it's all in balance and has an almost weightless feel to it. It's medium- to full-bodied with purity and definition, and the magic of limestone soils keeps the pH low, giving energy, bright acidity and verve. Terrific young red. 51% merlot, 32% cabernet franc and 17% cabernet sauvignon."

Very cool, fine wine from this estate in this year. 3.35 pH. 14.2% alcohol. 82% merlot, 17% cabernet franc and 1% cabernet sauvignon. Best ever?"

JAMES SUCKLING: "An eye-opener. This really takes off at the end, with blackberry, tapenade, chocolate powder and cedar. It’s full-bodied and tight with solid tannins that are fine and less velvety than previous vintages. Less new wood than in the past. Crunchy. 100% merlot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "There is a really pretty, powdery-tannin texture to this, with dark-berry and currant character. Some orange peel, too. It’s full and layered with a sense of precision and focus. Framed and open-grained in the texture. Velvety. Real Pauillac personality here. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. May be better than 2022."
