Es geht los mit dem besten Preis-Leistungs-Pauillac der letzten Jahre: CHATEAU BATAILLEY, ein Jahr für Jahr unglaublicher Erfolg. So ist auch 2021 CHATEAU BATAILLEY wieder der Spitzen-Pauillac des Jahrganges, den Bordeaux in diesem Preis-Segment zu bieten hat. Lediglich 13% Alkohol, 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc, gelesen zwischen dem 11. und 15. Oktober mit 47hl/ha waren das Rezept zum Erfolg!
CHATEAU BATAILLEY liegt nur einen Steinwurf westlich von Pichon Comtesse de Lalande und Pichon Baron, verfügt deshalb über hervorragende Böden mit sehr hohem Kiesanteil. 57 Hektar groß ist das Gut, dessen traumhaft schöner Park von Barillet-Deschamps angelegt wurde, dem Parkarchitekten von Napoleon III. Inhaber sind die Familien Borie Manoux und Casteja, die sich mit enorm viel Engagement und finanziellem Investment um das Chateau kümmern. Wir persönlich haben den Wein anlässlich unseres nahezu 3-wöchigen Bordeaux Aufenthaltes zwei Mal vor Ort verkostet. Chalky undertone, coming from the limestone terroir here. 72% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 6.5% cabernet franc, 1.5% carmenere and 1% petit verdot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A very pure and beautiful HBL with blackcurrant and mineral notes, like crushed stones, as well as a vivid freshness. Purity and brightness in the center-palate, with essence of cassis and a crunchy minerality from part of the vineyard in limestone. 86% cabernet sauvignon and 14% merlot. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification."
Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2023

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is the most structured Mouton since the great 2016, with tannins that start slowly and then take off. It’s muscular and toned. It’s full-bodied but doesn’t come across too heavy. It builds up in intensity and goes on and on and on. It just keeps expanding. I took a double take here. 93% cabernet sauvignon and 7% merlot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A lively and fleshy red with a medium body, good structure and velvety tannins. It has vibrant fruit and a bright, lightly chewy finish."
Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2023

JAMES SUCKLING: "The purity of cabernet sauvignon is so evident here. It mesmerizes you with aromas of black and red currants, cedar, tobacco and bark. It's full-bodied yet there's very impressive weightlessness and agility, as well as subtlety and focus. Some iron and terra-cotta. Cedar and sandalwood undertones. Juicy and plummy at the end. 12.9% alcohol. 3.75 pH. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A savory and juicy Carruades with softness and notes of ripe berry, cedar and dried tobacco. Like Lafite from the 1980s but more precise. Round and pretty. It really grows on the finish with such sweetness of fruit and length. Pointed, fine tannins at the end. Very long. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is very structured with currant and chocolate character, medium body and an excellent center-palate of fruit and tannins. Juicy at the end."
Chateau Pedesclaux 2023

JAMES SUCKLING: "There is a really pretty, powdery-tannin texture to this, with dark-berry and currant character. Some orange peel, too. It’s full and layered with a sense of precision and focus. Framed and open-grained in the texture. Velvety. Real Pauillac personality here. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. May be better than 2022."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Beautiful fruit with currants and blackberries, as well as notes of walnuts and chocolate. So much blackberry fruit here. Aromatic. Medium- to full-bodied with very fine tannins on the deep and structured palate. Racy and long finish. 79% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot and 2% petit verdot."
