JAMES SUCKLING: "Very classy, the transparency of this Angelus giving brilliance to the pure fruit in such a difficult growing season. Medium-bodied, it has a compacted palate and creamy, polished tannins. Very melted and harmonized. Dark cherries, raspberries and orange peel come through beautifully with some stones. 60% merlot and 40% cabernet franc."

DECANTER: "Beautiful fragrance on the nose, super perfumed and floral with sweet red fruits too, lifted and very welcoming. Creamy red cherries and bright strawberries. Round and filling, this has instant appeal with a generous push of crisp fruit but it’s more the texture and layering of elements here that is so wonderful. Feels precise and well detailed with finely woven tannins that have a connotation and almost thickness to them that many in the vintage don’t have. Classic, cool and super fresh but filled with crystalline fruit and so much elegance. Fun, fruity, stylish and just brilliant. Great mineral finish too. Fabulous. I visited Angélus during the harvest and saw first hand pristine berries. 3.65pH."

JEB DUNNUCK: "A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc aging 50% (Cabernet Franc) in foudre and the rest in new oak, the 2024 Château Angélus has a deeper ruby hue as well as a beautiful nose of black raspberries, cassis, graphite, crushed stone, and flowers. It's wonderfully pure, has medium-bodied richness, a focused yet incredibly elegant mouthfeel, and ultra-fine tannins. It's a beautiful, classy Angélus that might surprise with its longevity."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "It requires no effort to find the bouquet of flowers in the perfume, followed by the discovery of licorice, black cherries, espresso, Valrhona chocolate, smoke, and plums on the nose. The palate is even better, showcasing an elegant display of red pit fruits. Silky and refined, the finish emphasizes purity, lift, vibrancy, and a strong sense of place, featuring a mineral-driven conclusion. The wine blends 60% Merlot, with 40% Cabernet Franc, 13.7%. Harvesting took place from September 11 to October 5. The wine is aging as follows: the Merlot is aged in 100% new, French oak, while half the Cabernet Franc is aged in new, French oak, with the other half of the Franc aging in foudres. Drink from 2029-2050."

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: Deep garnet-purple colored. Is a little cedary to begin, needing some coaxing to bring out notes of red currant jelly, raspberry leaves, and mulberries, giving way to hints of graphite, rose bud tea, and Sichuan pepper. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing with delicate red berry and floral laced flavors and a long minerally finish. Very pretty!"

ANSON: "Vivid plum colour, cedar and gunsmoke on the opening, skilfully and carefully put together, slim through the palate, but this is very clearly finessed, sleek, with quiet confidence, and pumice stone texture, cherry pit, squid ink, damson, rosebud, Cabernet Franc dominant in terms of its floral aromatics. 39hl/h yield, 40th anniversary vintage of Hubert de Böuard. This will for sure be ready to drink earlier than many vintages of Angélus, but it is well structured and will age for many years to come. No chaptilisation."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung. Zarte Kräuterwürze, Noten von Herzkirschen, ein Hauch von Pflaumen, kandierte Orangenzesten sind unterlegt. Komplex, rotbeerig, seidige, reife Tannine, frischer Säurebogen, rote Kirschen im Nachhall, bleibt haften, salziger Abgang, gutes Reifepotenzial."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Deep, bright, purple colour. Fragrant nose with blueberry and floral notes. Real depth through the mid palate with plentiful but finely honed tannins. Length on the finish, the fruit flavour lingering. Structured and elegant with no hard edges."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, cropped at a very honorable 40 hectoliters per hectare, the 2024 Angélus has turned out well, offering up aromas of dark berries, minty plums and violet, framed by a deft touch of toasty oak. Medium-bodied, ample and suave, it's polished and textural, with sweet but present tannins and creditable persistence on the finish."
