James Suckling: Perfumed and clear, with aromas of raspberries, flowers and citrus. Medium-bodied, showing fine tannins and a tangy finish with salty undertones. A linear and complex wine with unique balance. 14.1% alcohol. 78% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon."

The Wine Cellar Insider: Cherries, plums, tobacco, cinnamon, spearmint, and cigar box aromatics get you instantly focused on the nose. The palate is plush, polished, creamy, elegant, and fresh. The berries display refinement, and purity. The concentrated finish lingers with its blend of vivid, and refreshing mint, tobacco, spice, black raspberries, and Morelleo cherries. To be able to achieve the balance between fruit, and the dynamic freshness in the wine, the late August rains were a huge help. Without that added moisture, ABV levels would have been higher, along with less maturity for the grapes. The wine blends 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14.2% ABV, 3.35 pH. The harvest took place September 12 - September 25. Yield were 30 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2029-2060."

Jane Anson: Inky plum colour, a wine that I always love tasting, flinty gunsmoke reduction, full of charm and personality. Intense, concentrated, pumice stone and steel, a ton of lift and we are slap bang in full limestone character, with a creamy undertow. 30 hl/ha. 40% new oak, Nicolas Thienpont showcasing his skill."

Falstaff: Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, tintiger Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Nuancen von Edelholz und Gewürzen, Anklänge von Kardamom und Vanille, Noten von Preiselbeeren, floraler Touch. Saftig, komplex, elegant, finessenreich strukturiert, integrierte, reife Tannine, lange anhaftend, sicheres Zukunftspotenzial."

Decanter: Quite dark liquorice, black chocolate and toasted notes on the nose, round and softly plump with fleshy tannins and a really bright, almost brisk core of crunchy. cranberry-edged acidity. Straightforward with a structured frame of firm tannins and toasted oak. It’s not yet harmonised and the acidity is quite accentuated which is almost always the case but I do like the generous and friendly tannins which make it that little bit more soft and charming."

Jeb Dunnuck: Deep purple-hued, the 2025 Château Pavie Macquin is a blend of 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that will spend 16-20 months in 40% new oak. I was able to taste this on multiple occasions, and it's clear this is an incredibly concentrated yet fresher-styled 2025 from this château. Exotic blue fruits, crushed stone, liquid violets, and gun smoke all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a deep, concentrated mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a beautiful finish. This terroir always yields a very fresh, mineral-driven style of wine, but this brings a lot of acidity, hitting 14.1% alcohol with a very low pH of 3.23 from 30 hectoliters per hectare. It reminds me slightly of the 2016."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Pavie Macquin is a touch shy to start off, offering glimpses of cedar chest and pencil shavings notes before unfurling to reveal a core of black cherries and black raspberries, plus nuances of peonies and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate delivers a crisp line of tension with soft, velvety tannins and bright red and black fruit layers, finishing long and perfumed. The blend is 78% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The alcohol is 14.1%."
