Jane Anson: Medium to full intensity plum colour, this is intense, powerful, cloves and black pepper, great quality, plenty of ageing potential and this is skilful winemaking. James Suckling: Complex aromas of dark berries, citrus, spices and a hint of sweet tobacco follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crunchy finish. Very nicely done."

Decanter: With some of the harvest picked after late August rainfall - and a majority of Merlot in the blend - this wine has some of the highest alcohol for the vintage, and yet it is a bit schizophrenic: The palate evinces tangy steeliness along with Merlot-driven aromatics of dark chocolate and ripe plum. The low pH - 3.35 - reflects energy and acidity. Let's see how it will perform after the full barrel-ageing process (50% new oak)."

Jeb Dunnuck: A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon that's being raised in 50% new barrels, the 2025 Château Couhins-Lurton offers lots of cassis and assorted berry fruits alongside cedar pencil, leafy tobacco, and liquid violet-like nuances on the nose. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, balanced, graceful mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. Checking in at 14.5% alcohol, this is a beautiful, classy, classic wine in the vintage."

The Wine Cellar Insider: Tobacco, spice, leafy herbs, and currant nuances open the wine. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, soft, energetic, and focused on its sweet, mildly peppery cherry-filled charm that is completed by a hint of sweet citrus that comes through at the end of the finish. This will drink well with just a bit of time in the cellar. Drink from 2029-2045."

Falstaff: Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.
