Jane Anson: The most firmly constructed wine of the Calon stable of course, but it still delivers the combination of finesse and concentration that is typical of the best wines in 2025. Much more graphite and slate on the texture of this main wine, this is one of the wines that really showcases the highest potential of the vintage, and it is an exceptional Calon. So layered, iris bud, cassis, crushed violet flowers, espresso and cocoa bean. A slow unroll. 100% new oak. 3.6 pH. Yield 35 hl/ha, Harvest September 4 to 20."

Falstaff: Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.

The Wine Cellar Insider: Dark in color, the perfume delivers a wealth of red, purple, and white flowers from the start, then shifts to a display of red, with black pit fruits and berries. The vivid palate seals the deal with seemingly endless waves of ripe fruit, an array of spices, mint, and peppery chocolate. Long, refined, powerful, restrained, and focused, the finish seamlessly continues that theme. The wine blends 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. 13.6% ABV. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare. The harvest took place September 4 - September 20. This represents the earliest vintage in the history of the estate. The wine is aging in 100% new, French oak barrels. Drink from 2032-2065."

Wine Advocate: A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2025 Calon-Ségur offers up a deep and incipiently complex bouquet of dark berries, rose petals and violets, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Full-bodied, deep and layered, with terrific energy, abundant but ultra refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish, it checks in at a very classically proportioned 13.6% alcohol and pH of 3.6."

Decanter: Smells so alive on the nose, crystalline but ripe blackcurrants with some liquorice and tobacco touches. Tar, campfire smoke - a charred element. Grippy and filling but in a soft, powdery bouncy, almost chewy sense - but not fleshy as such - round, massy and layered but so gently controlled that it feels more like a caress than a hug. To me it feels a bit more accessible than Calon can sometimes be in these early stages. Juicy mid palate, strawberries and cherries with the signature mineral, chalky grip on the finish. Lovely, true to form and very delightful. 3.4pH. 65% grand vin production. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend."

Jeb Dunnuck: A big step up over the Marquis, the 2025 Château Calon Ségur is based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, and will spend 20 months in 100% new oak. The nose reveals ripe plums, cassis, and black raspberries alongside smoky tobacco and violet notes. On the palate, it's full-bodied, round, and lush, with tons of fruit, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish. It checks in at 13.6% alcohol with a pH of 3.6. This ripe, polished, sexy Saint-Estèphe will offer tons of pleasure in its youth yet should also age gracefully."

Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Calon Ségur shimmies out with seductive notes of iris, fresh blueberries, and black currant jelly, giving way to hints of underbrush, crushed rocks, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate shimmers with wonderful tension and bright blue and black fruit flavors, supported by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and minerally. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. It has a pH of 3.6 and the alcohol is 13.6%. The wine is aging for 20 months in French barriques, 100% new."

James Suckling: Aromas of ripe black currants, yet menthol and other fresh herbs come through. Medium body, with firm and slightly chewy tannins and a savory finish. Plenty going on here. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot."
