JAMES SUCKLING: "A very classic Pauillac reminiscent of wines from the 1980s but more precise. This has medium body, fine tannins and a crisp and clean finish. Crushed-stone undertones. Vivid and bright. A blend of 81% cabernet sauvignon, 15% merlot and 4% petit verdot."

ANSON: "Fragrant, floral, precise, with graphite and crayon character that is immediately apparent on the nose. Captures the appellation and estate signature, with classicism and balance, depth through the mid palate and slim, savoury blue and black fruits. Well constructed, and no question that this can age - easy to project forward to think that in a decade this will be in full Batailley swing. 57% new oak for ageing, Casteja family estate."

DECANTER: "Orange rind, cinnamon, sweet tobacco, vanilla and ripe cherries. Smells gorgeous. Sweet and lifted, a great mouthfeel - balanced, round and filling all at the same time. Punchy in terms of tannins but they soften almost straight away with a chalky finish - graphite, pencil lead and clove spice. Feels well structured, intense and concentrated with plenty of muscle on show. Serious but there’s a playful side too when the acidity bursts through. This is all about the grip and mouthfeel right now but you have signature Pauillac in there and I love the overall feel of the tannins. A fine wine to drink early, and age. Ageing 57% new oak."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Creme de cassis, cigar wrappers, flowers, and cherries fill the perfume. The palate is fresh, lively, medium-bodied, and frankly, best described as charming, with its early, drinking, vibrant character. It is interesting to note this is the 100th vintage for the Casteja family. The bottles will feature a special label, and buyers can order the wine in limited edition, 2.25 liter bottles. The wine is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Harvesting took place September 2 - October 8. Drink from 2029-2045."

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: "Deep garnet-purple in color. Storms out with broody notes of tar and fried herbs, giving way to a core of red and black currants and boysenberries, plus a waft of black olives. The light to medium-bodied palate offers chewy tannins and bright acidity to frame the black and red berry flavors, finishing earthy."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Nuancen von Feigen und Nougat, reife Pflaumen, ein Hauch von Dörrobst. Mittlere Komplexität, rotbeeriger Touch, feiner Säurebogen, zart schokoladig-kräuterwürzig im Abgang."
