JAMES SUCKLING: "A subtle yet plush La Lagune with black olives, blackberries and hints of chocolate and hazelnut. Medium body with fine, polished tannins and a savory finish. There's a crunchy feel to it and it’s layered and deep at the end. 65% cabernet sauvignon and 35% merlot. No petit verdot."

DECANTER: "Dark nose, really quite vivid and vibrant, lots of blackberries and some herbal markers. Beautifully fragrant, smells so expressive and really ripe. Smooth and clean, a lovely crisp texture to this with super fine tannins that coat the mouth in a soft chalkiness with really high menthol, herbal Cabernet markers. Although this has a tight core with a focussed line from start to finish it’s not austere or too serious. Finessed and detailed, strawberries, cranberries and blackcurrants, a real mixture of ripe fruit and cool freshness. Very drinkable with delicate fruit and high acidity. This will age extremely well. No Petit Verdot in the blend this year. 18 months ageing, 50% new oak. 3.75pH. 1% press wine. Two thirds grand vin production. A yield of 30-35hl/ha."

FALSTAFF: "Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Frische Herzkirischen, feines Cassis, einladende Waldbeeren, attraktives Bukett. Saftig, elegant, reife Kirschfrucht, feine Süße, runde Tannine, gute Frische, bleibt haften, mineralisch, mit guter Zukunftsperspektive ausgestattet."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Indian spice, flowers, smoke, red pit fruits, and a drop of espresso fill the complex nose. The medium-bodied, palate is elegant, refined, and silky, with lift, and sweetness to the red berries with a touch of chocolate in the end note that fills things out. Drink from 2027-2045."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2023 La Lagune, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, reveals bright aromas of dark wild berries, flowers, cassis and spices. Medium-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a perfectly balanced mid-palate, it’s elegant and charming with an ethereal, fruity finish. This is an excellent rendition of this terroir."

JEB DUNNUCK: "This hidden gem of a Haut-Médoc is always worth checking out. The 2023 Château La Lagune reveals a ruby/purple hue as well as classic notes of red and black currants, leafy tobacco, cedary spice, and smoke. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has ample mid-palate depth, and ripe, integrated tannins. It plays in the fresh, lively style of the vintage yet brings beautiful fruit and depth."
