JAMES SUCKLING: "This is a juicy and savory red with ripe blue-fruit and violet aromas. It’s medium-bodied with supple tannins. Good concentration of fruit. Fine finish."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "Matured without using barrels, the 2023 Haut Bergey instead utilized stainless steel tanks, egg-shaped concrete containers, TAVA amphorae and foudres of 30 hectoliters. It reveals a perfumed, delicate bouquet of cassis, blueberries, mulberries, flowers and menthol. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, it’s perfectly balanced with a juicy texture that finishes long and mouthwatering. The increased proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, necessitated by mildew on the Merlot, imparts a delicate and tense mid-palate characterized by powdery tannins. This blend, consisting of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, is a singularly well-executed wine at this address."

VINUM: "Kräuterwürzig und rotfruchtig im Duft, frisch am Gaumen, leichtfüssig, nicht sonderlich komplex, jedoch mit guter Harmonie und salinem, leicht herbem Finale."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Using less oak for the aging, the wine shows more elegance, with additional purity in its character. The wine is soft, fruity, ripe, and elegant, with a smoky edge to the cherries in the finish. Drink from 2026-2040."
