Chateau Enclos Tourmaline 2023

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is very long and tight with wonderful al-dente fruit, such as blackberry and orange peel. Fine tannins run the length of the wine, keeping it fresh and vivid at the end. 97% merlot and 3% cabernet franc."

DECANTER: "Gorgeously floral, juicy black fruit and damson aromas presage a classy, polished, fresh and juicy palate. A bit of tightening tannin on the finish, but of the sort that the 100% new oak ageing will soften, indeed the integration of the new oak is superb. Harvesters carefully picked the very best grapes in this small 1.2ha vineyard with blue clay and gravel soils between 15-21 September, and it shows. Only 3,600 bottles produced."

JEB DUNNUCK: "The 2023 Enclos Tourmaline is mostly Merlot with a small addition of Cabernet Franc and comes from a tiny 1.2-hectare parcel that was purchased by Peter Kwok in 2012. It's a gorgeous wine in the making, offering plnety of black raspberry and red plum-like fruit as well as ample floral, spicy, incense-like nuances. Medium to full-bodied, it shows the more mid-weight, juicy, elegant style of the vintage yet has a broad, expansive mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish."

WEINWISSER: "97 % Merlot, 3 % Cabernet Franc. Intensives dicht verwobenes blaubeeriges Bouquet, betörender Veilchen-Duft und Schokopastillen. Am komplexen Gaumen mit seidiger Textur, engmaschigem Tanninkorsett, herrlicher Extraktfülle, stützender Rasse und trainiertem Körper. Im konzentrierten Finale blaue Beeren, Lakritze und feinmehliges Tannin."

FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, dezenter Ockerrand. Zarte Edelholzwürze, etwas Minze, ein Hauch von Veilchen und schwarzen Kirschen, zart mit Nugat unterlegt. Saftig, rund und elegant, feine Röstaromen im Kern, reife Tannine, mineralischer, straffer Nachhall, bleibt haften, gutes Reifepotenzial, etwas Karamell im Rückgeschmack."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Incense, flowers, cherries, cocoa, and black raspberries fill the bouquet. Silky, elegant, and medium-bodied, this discreet wine is pure, refreshing, and long with a refined character to the red berries, and chocolate-mint nuances in the finish. The wine is a blend of 97% and 3% Cabernet Franc. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2027-2047."

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Enclos Tourmaline features vivacious notes of crushed blackberries and fresh blueberries giving way to hints of violets, dark chocolate, and aniseed. The medium-bodied palate is plush-textured with open-knit black fruits and just enough freshness, finishing fruity."
