Suckling: "Opulent and pure with currants and blackberries and some floral and orange undertones. Medium to full body. Fine tannins. Bright at the end."
Falstaff: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Frische rote Waldbeerenfrucht, ein Hauch von Kirschen, zart nach Bienenwachs und Lakritze. Saftig, elegant, feine Würze, reife, gut integrierte Tannine, mineralisch und frisch, bleibt haften, salziger Nachhall, gutes Reifepotenzial."
Neal Martin: "The 2021 Le Gay is far superior on the nose compared to the Deuxième Vin, much more blackberry and raspberry fruit, hints of iris flower and sage, though obviously less precocious than the last three vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, saline on the front palate with fine delineation towards the composed finish. This is a well-executed Le Gay that just lacks a bit of substance."
Wine Cellar Insider: "Licorice, espresso, spice, vanilla, plums and red pit fruits crowd into the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium/full-bodied, round, lifted, sweet and polished with ample dark red, ripe, sweet, vibrant fruits in the finish. Drink from 2024-2045."
Galloni: "The 2021 Le Gay is a heady, exotic Pomerol. Red-fleshed fruit, spice, lavender and floral notes all meld together nicely. Resonant and expressive, with fine balance, Le Gay is showing quite well today. I suppose it could use a bit more depth, but this is 2021 after all."
Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Le Gay offers up aromas of cherries and berries mingled with aromas of mint, vanilla pod and creamy new oak. Full-bodied, layered and fleshy, it's rich and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by plenty of extract and oak tannin. It's entirely fermented in new barrels, which has become one of the estate's signatures."
Decanter: "Scented raspberries and cherries with soft floral touches on the nose. A gentle succulence, but the minerality, liquorice, slate and clove are to the very fore. Robust tannins coat the mouth, a little harsh and firm at the moment. I do like the overall mouthfeel at the beginning, this has character and is serious in its fleshy structure. Well worked with a youthful charm that will benefit from ageing."
