|93-95+ THE WINEADVOCATE: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 La Violette reveals delicate notes of rose hip tea, underbrush and wild sage to begin, opening out to Black Forest cake, plum preserves and blackberry pie scents plus wafts of cedar and cinnamon toast. Big, full and voluptuously fruited, it has a firm structure of plush tannins and background freshness, finishing opulent."
95 FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung.
92-95 WINESPECTATOR: "Lush in feel, with alluring crushed raspberry and plum fruit flavors, inlaid with a black tea hint. The fruit is quite showy, but this remains a bit shy on drive.—J.M."
95 DECANTER: "This is full of savour with a gourmet edge that’s imprinted in its DNA; it has seductive fruit and flower aromatics with a silky texture alongside powerful tannins and the generous richness of the vintage. You don´t just pass by this wine, it makes you pay attention – it’s Pomerol seduction straight up and signature Péré Vergé style, reminding me again that one of the brilliant things about 2018 is that estates were able to really pick their harvest dates giving them choices and the ability for people to deliver on signatures."
95-96 JAMES SUCKLING: "This depth of fruit here is fantastic with so much berry, fig and wet-earth character, not to mention the mushrooms. Full body and polished, chewy tannins. Long and flavorful finish."
94-97 ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2018 La Violette is a heady Pomerol. Crème de cassis, blueberry jam, licorice, lavender and menthol capture a striking interplay of unctuous richness and freshness. Soft curves and silky tannins add to the wine´s pure appeal. Although not at all subtle, the 2018 is stunningly beautiful in a modern, sumptuous style that offers tons of immediacy. Hopefully the strong new oak signatures will integrate more fully during élevage."
97-99 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Almost opaque ruby in color, this rare wine pops with truffles, violets, spice, lilacs, espresso, cherry and plum scented perfume. Exotic, erotic, sensuous, velvety and luxurious beyond belief, the wine combines intensity, complexity and hedonism with an organic flair. Posh and drenched with velvet, this is stunning in every sense of the word. I think 2018 is the probably the best vintage since 2010. Produced from 100% old vine Merlot, the wine reached 14% alcohol. The harvest took place September 24-28. Vinified entirely in barrel, there are only 425 cases in total. Make that 424, as I am buying one! So if you want this decadent stunner in your cellar, you will need to move quickly."
96-98 JEB DUNNUCK: "Made by the team at Le Gay, the tiny production, garagiste-styled 2018 Château La Violette is another magical wine, offering a saturated purple color, heavenly notes of black and blue fruits, smoky oak, chocolate, and earth, full-bodied richness, and layers of polished tannins. Despite being a big, powerful wine, nothing is out of place, it has thrilling purity, and is a gorgeous wine any way you look at it. Buy it if you can."
