|92-94 THE WINEADVOCATE: "The 2018 Guillot Clauzel is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc with a pH of 3.65 and 14.4% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with expressive red and black berry preserves, Black Forest cake and garrigue with hints of tobacco, fragrant soil, cloves and star anise. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is beautifully structured with ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness lifting the dense, earthy layers to a long, refreshing finish. Nicely done!"
90 DECANTER: "This is from a small 2.4ha plot in Pomerol that Guillaume Thienpont has started to work with as of January 2018. It´s located next to Nenin and Enclos Tourmaline, with south facing clay gravel slopes and vines that date from the 1960s for the heart of this wine. Right now, he´s vinifying all the blocks separately to get to know what he has, and this is of course only the first vintage, but it has a lovely smokiness to it with ripe plum and damson fruits and a floral edge – will be approachable within the next few years. Thienpont is not just consulting, but working the vines and making the wines, so you hardly need me to tell you that this is one to watch."
95-96 JAMES SUCKLING: "This is a beautifully balanced red with blackberries, some plums and chocolate and hazelnut. Full and tight with polished and refined tannins. So very fine-textured finish. Savory. Persistent. 75 per cent merlot, the rest cabernet franc. New wine, overseen by Guillaume Thienpont of Vieux Château Certan."
90-93 ANTONIO GALLONI: "Guillot Clauzel is one of the most intriguing Pomerols I tasted this year. Guillaume Thienpont has recently taken over the farming and winemaking at this small domaine. In 2018, Thienpont vinified seven lots from the 2.4-hectare property. The 2018 is soft, pliant and wonderfully inviting. Blueberry fruit, sage, mint and lavender are all nicely lifted. Fresh, silky and open-knit, the 2018 will drink well right out of the gate. This is certainly an auspicious debut for Guillot Clauzel under the stewardship of Guillaume Thienpont. It will be interesting to see if Thienpont can coax a little more complexity from this site in the coming years. For now, the 2018 is certainly an impressive start. The blend is 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc."
92-94 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "The debut vintage for Chateau Guillot Clauzel with Guillaume Thienpont at the helm is a strong first effort. The wine is medium bodied and plummy with licorice, truffle, espresso and ripe black cherry. Round, juicy and polished with freshness in the sweet red fruits and a hint of leafy herbs in the finish, the texture in the end note is smooth, soft and silky."
