DECANTER: "Lively on initial impact with bright red fruits to the fore. Juicy and alive, giving a shot of acidity and brightness to the palate - really so joyful and inspiring before the tannins come in and gently frame the fruit towards the long, slightly spiced ending of clove and cinnamon. Such St-Estèphe terroir markers here and you're getting that more than anything else. It's not trying too hard with salinity and a touch of austerity showing the youth and minerality in the tongue-scrapingly clean finish. Refreshing and compelling."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A firm and silky red with currants and berries. Medium body. Savory and spicy."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "An elegant, seamless wine, the 2021 de Pez exhibits aromas of cassis, sweet berries and nicely integrated new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's supple and fleshy, with good depth at the core and a nicely defined finish. It's a blend of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot crafted by Nicolas Glumineau and his team from Pichon Lalande."

JEB DUNNUCK: "The top wine, the 2021 Château De Pez comes from a selection of 70% of the total production and is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, all of which is still resting in 40% new barrels. It has beautiful purity and precision, which is very much in the style of the vintage, as well as classic aromatics of cassis, violets, lead pencil shavings, and hints of smoked tobacco. This pure, elegant, medium-bodied 2021 has ripe, polished tannins and outstanding length. It certainly looks to be an outstanding wine at this point."

FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Feine Brombeernote, ein Hauch von Nougat und Gewürznelken, zart nach Edelholz. Saftig, elegant, rote Kirschen, feine, gut integrierte Tannine, mineralisch-zitronig im Abgang, salziger Nachhall, feiner Speisenbegleiter."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. From the Roederer stable. Cask sample. Rather sumptuous nose. Fleshy, almost sweet – certainly many steps taken to ensure this is not too austere. Good drive and excellent delivery of ripe fruit. Underneath there is the stoniness of the appellation and I assume that Montrose, for example, is more concentrated and will live longer but this is a pretty successful wine. Fresh, long finish. Good stuff! Very nicely balanced."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Earthy clay and red fruits with touches of spice and leafy herbs on the nose lead you to a medium-bodied, earthy, chewy, savory, edged, dark red berry-filled wine with an olive accent in the round, fruity finish. The wine blends 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2024-2035."
