* 89 - 91 Robert Parker THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2009 Soleil Le Rival, which comes from neighboring Lussac St.-Emilion, is composed of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc grown in the vineyard’s finest parcels. An outstanding effort, it is one of the finest Lussac St.-Emilions I have tasted, having more in common with a top St.-Emilion. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of kirsch, black currants, earth, spice, and a liquid minerality. Its oak component is well-concealed by the wine’s good freshness, precision, power, and richness. It should drink well for 5-7 years. (Tasted once.) Two new wines for me, Stefan von Neipperg is the force behind both of these estates."
* 17 WEINWISSER: "Sattes Purpur-Granat. Intensives Brombeerbouquet, noch recht floral und etwas kühl im ersten Ansatz. Mit festem, zupackendem Körper, sehr fleischig. Ein interessanter neuer Wein aus dem Lussac-Teil von Château Soleil. 100 % neues Holz, 90 % Merlot, 10 % Cabernet Franc. Die Produktion liegt bei etwa 15 000 Flaschen. 2016–2027"
* 16 von 20 BETTANE & DESSAUVE: "It is the first real vintage of Didier Miqueu and Stephan von Neipperg on this plateau of Le Rival, and the success is there for this well structured wine, with its elegant and “sap” tannins, with a beautiful dimension..."

Allgemeine Informationen: "Chateau SOLEIL acquired another 20 hectare estate in 2007 in the neighbouring area of Lussac. LE RIVAL is a rare cuvee coming from two outstanding plots on the clay limestone plateau, planted with old merlot wines on Riparia Gloire Rootstock. These plots produced grapes of absolutely awesome quality in 2009 with an average yield of only 30 hl/ha. The wine displays power, length, structure, balance, smooth tannin, aromatic complexity and a long aftertaste. Only 1250 cases produced! 2009 LE RIVAL is actually a very great wine able to "rival" estates on the Right Bank with a much more famous pedigree!"
