Chateau Palmer |
 |
|

* 89 - 92 Robert Parker THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The delicious 2009 Alter Ego de Palmer (an equal part blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) could have been drunk when I tasted it. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by smoky blackberry and black currant fruit notes, and a silky smooth, expansive, hedonistic, pleasure-filled wine that should drink well for a decade. (Tasted once.)"
* 88 - 91 WINESPECTATOR: "Love the gorgeous red fruits in this wine. It seems a little Porty, with prune and blackberry character, but so soft, round and rich. Could use a little more in the center palate, but opulent and generous. A little hot. 50 percent Merlot and 50 percent Ca"
* 16,5 JANCIS ROBINSON: „Drink 2015-2025; 49% Cabernet Sauvignon. 51% Merlot. Very dark crimson. Very sweet and potent with masses of black fruits. Attractive scent but almost soupy! Big and bold and a sort of cross between New World style and Palmer sinewy influence. Very dramatic. Very round and a little bit inky on the end. Quite aggressive. Falls apart a bit on the finish. A little bit green on the finish. 13.7%"
* 17,5 DECANTER (****): „Black red, superb, velvety almost exotic nose, rich and polished fruit with lots of ripe tannins, will open up early but has terrific length and concentration. Drink 2013-20."
* 17 WEINWISSER: "Sattes Purpur-Granat. Dichtes, süsses Brombeerbouquet, dunkles Karamell, dezent tintig. Im Gaumen seidig, fast verschwenderische Aromen bei mittlerem Körper, feinherbe Schokobitterkeit, ist auf sehr gutem Weg und kann noch zulegen. 2014–2024"
* 90 - 92 FALSTAFF Peter Moser: "Feines süßes Erdbeerkonfit, etwas hochgetönt, rauchige Nuancen. Saftig, reife Zwetschkenfrucht, stoffige Textur, mineralisch und rund, im Abgang fast üppig, gut entwickelt, schokoladiger Nachhall."
* 95 JANE ANSON The New Bordeaux: "Beautiful density of fruit, technical maturity early September, but waited for phenolic ripeness, and for the vines not to suffer from too much water stress, there was a very necessary bit of rainfall in the middle of September. In the end the yield was low, at 34 hl/h, close to that in 2005, and they will make 7,000 cases of Alter Ego (45%), 9,000 for Palmer (55%). That is a beautiful wine. Wonderfully dense fruit, but real elegance. Utterly gorgeous. Alcohol is at 13.2 – very reasonable level compared to many. I got a very interesting explanation here for the soft tannins that were so marked in 2009 – apparently the cabernet sauvignon berries had very few pips this year – just two average per grape, less than the usual four, which meant that almost all tannins in the wine are from the skin of the fruit (and therefore less potential for astringency) 49% cabernet sauvignon, 51% merlot, 30% new oak."
* 91 - 93 WINE ENTHUSIAST Roger Voss: "Very ripe fruit aromas. The palate is almost velvet in texture, smooth and rich, fruits packed with black berries and sweet plums. A charming, delicious wine."
* 91 - 93 Neil Martins WINE JOURNAL: "Tasted at the chateau. A lucid purple colour. A blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 51% Merlot, I do not even need to approach the glass to nose this wine. Just under 13.7% alcohol. A sense of controlled opulence here, black plum, a touch of cassis and bilberry, the oak just a little dominant at the moment but that will subsume itself into the wine with time. The palate is full-bodied with seamless tannins, a typically plush, approachable Alter Ego with black cherry, a hint of thyme and white fennel, gentle but insistent grip towards the finish. Tasted March 2010."
* 89 - 90 QUARIN: "My best rating ever given to this wine during futures campaigns; This note puts Alter Ego among the best I have tasted, namely 2002, 2005 and the 2009. Dark red, intense and beautiful color. Fruity nose, fresh, ripe, pure, lovely, with lots of black fruit. Immediately juicy upon entry into mouth, the wine has a refined feel and a very nice taste. Flawless tannin, very good length, smooth and distinguished. Very lovely finish. A wine impossible to spit. Alcohol 13 5, pH 3.68; IPT 80. And in addition, it will keep well." |

* 94 - 96 Robert Parker THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The black/purple-colored 2009 Palmer exhibits a level of tannin that exceeds anything they have previously produced. The final blend is 52% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Petit Verdot, and the finished alcohol is 13.9%. It is hard to say this 2009 will turn out better than Palmer’s extraordinary 2005, but it certainly will be different in style given the alcohol level and power of this vintage. Pure blackberry and black currant fruit notes intermixed with hints of incense, graphite, and wood are followed by an opulent, thick, juicy wine with plenty of structure, and enormous concentration, mass, and length. Four to five years of patience is required, but this beauty should last for three decades or more. (Tasted once.)"
* 95 - 98 WINESPECTATOR: "Loaded with exotic fruit, with masses of crushed blackberry and blueberry. Superclear and fruit forward. Full and velvety, with fresh acidity and a long, long finish. This is almost in your face, but reserved in a way. Superseductive"
* 20 WEINWISSER: "52 % Merlot, 41 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot. 20/20 2017–2038"
* 18 JANCIS ROBINSON: „Drink 2018-2035; 41% Cabernet Sauvignon, 52% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. Lustrous dark crimson. Very sweet and opulent on the nose. Very charming and glamorous. Much more of an expression of Merlot than many Médocs in 2009. Big and glamorous – a slightly Italian note. This year obsessed by extraction even more than usual. Prefer to play with press wines later. New from Parsec, a robot that turns though three dimensions. Experimented in 2008 for gentle extraction. Italian elan. Fresh."
* 19 DECANTER (*****): „Black red, deep velvety richness and wonderful concentration of black, spicy fruits on the nose, firm and powerful, fragrant and lifted, a satiny, seductive texture, great concentration, totally harmonious. Drink 2016-35." |
