* 89 - 91 Robert Parker THE WINE ADVOCATE: "A masculine-styled, dense purple-colored 2009, this cuvee offers up scents of charcoal, asphalt, black currants, incense, and crushed rocks. This deep, medium to full-bodied, well-made Margaux is broader, richer, and more substantial than usual, with more alcohol as well as substance. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated. This is a 30-year wine. (Tasted two times.)"
* 87 - 90 WINESPECTATOR: "A pleasant young wine, with berry and currant character that follows through to a medium body, with a simple finish."
* 16 JANCIS ROBINSON: „Drink 2017-2030; Sample a little tired? Very thick and concentrated. Almost brutal. Lots of concentration. Far from relaxed. This wine has a furrowed brow... Dry tannins. But it would certainly be impressive in a vertical tasting."
* 16+ DECANTER (***): „Black red, quite smoky, slightly bacony fruit, good density of ripeness and robust spicy richness a bit on the solid side. Drink 2014-20."
* 17 WEINWISSER: "Sattes Purpur-Granat. Florales, etwas reserviertes Bouquet, weniger süss als vergleichbare Crus. Im Gaumen recht fein, gut ausgelegt, mürb-mehliger Stoff, florales Finale. Gute Anlagen. 2016–2032"
* 90 - 92 WINE ENTHUSIAST Roger Voss: "Tannin dominated wine, very solid, chunky. It has a very dry, firm core, with the surrounding fruit extracted and tight, just a final hint of juiciness."
* 93 JANE ANSON The New Bordeaux: "The blend is 75% cabernet sauvignon, up from 55% in 2007, together with merlot 23% and petit verdot 2%. They harvested right up to October 14, one of the latest in the appellation, and have used 50% new oak, which gives an attractive smoky edge. Eric Boissenot has been consultant here since 2007, and this year they tried co-innoculation for the first time (one of his favourite techniques). Unquestionably Rauzan Gassies has been improving in quality over recent years, and this is a gentle wine, with real elegance and good black fruit. But there is still a but... personally I thought the 2008 over-delivered for the vintage, and this slips back down a touch." |
