 Geht es um die Architektur, liegt bei den beiden Pichon-Longueville der Baron vorne. Jeder Vorbeifahrende ist beeindruckt von der Architektur dieses anmutigen Chateau. Doch wer macht den besseren Wein der beiden Nachbarn? Eine hochinteressante Frage, die immer ein gutes Probenthema ergibt. Tatsache ist, dass sich beide Chateaux ein Kopf an Kopf Rennen liefern. Nur auf der anderen Straßenseite gelegen, können sich beide durchs Fenster in die Augen sehen. Beide Weine sind jedoch nicht vergleichbar. Der Longueville Baron ist mit 60% Cabernet, 35% Merlot und 4% Cabernet Franc und 1% Petit Verdot zwar im Blend ähnlich der Comtesse, der Wein ist aber analog dem Namen in den meisten Jahrgängen der maskulinere, Pauillac-typischere Wein. Zum AXA Konzern gehörend, werden die Weine unter der Regie des gleichen technischen Direktors wie auf Chateau Lynch Bages bereitet.

92-95 WINE SPECTATOR: "This has muscle, but is fleshy and almost creamy along the edges, with a very dense core of plum, blackberry and cassis waiting in reserve. A sleek iron edge cruises in on the finish and adds some serious length."
17,5 JANCIS ROBINSON: "Since 2000, there´s been a more consistent separation of plots. Grand vin now always includes the old Cabernet vines on the plateau overlooking Latour. 50% of production went into the grand vin this year, 45% into Les Tourelles. 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot. 80% new oak. Colour of elderberry juice, black core. Slight dusty note on the nose, touch of cedar freshness and underlying cassis purity and an attractive savoury dark edge even though there´s a slight note of dark chocolate too. Lots of pure cassis through the heart of the wine. Relatively stern but not at all hard. Lithe, fresh, graphite scented. Deft, full of fruit but not overly fruity. No excess of weight but not thin. Actually quite rich for the vintage. Finely balanced. (JH) 13.3%"
18,0 RENE GABRIEL: "82 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 % Merlot. 30 hl/ha. Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen.
Pfeffriges Cabernet Sauvignon-Bouquet, Edelhölzer, Tabak, Trüffel, viel warme Pflaumen, mittlerer Druck. Saftiger Gaumen, gut etabliert, im Innern
noch verlangend durch die noch nicht ganz integrierte Extrahierung, die Gerbstoffe haben leicht spröde Konturen und so spürt man an diesem tollen
Steak auch etwas die Kotelettknochen in seiner Jungweinphase. Sollte eigentlich ohne Probleme 18/20 erreichen. Momentan ist diese Wertung noch
als aufgerundet zu betrachten."
17,5 **** DECANTER: "Ripe Cabernet cassis fruit, very good structure and length, firm Pauillac elegance. Drink 2017-2030."
90-92+ PARKER: "This splendid Pauillac estate’s 2011 exhibits an impressively saturated ruby/purple color as well as notes of spring flowers interwoven with creme de cassis, licorice and background incense and toasty oak. The tannins are firm and the wine is medium-bodied and rich with layers of fruit and extract as well as a long finish. An outstanding example of the vintage, it will need 3-4 years of cellaring and should drink well for 15-20 years." |
